Songbird finally in beta!
I’ve been following the project for quite a while now, and tested out most of the Preview releases they have made available, mostly for addon developers etc. But almost every release has been really to unstable or lacking important features, so I have ended up going back to Amarok after just a few hours.
Yesterday, however, the first Beta release of Songbird was made available. The project is now considered mature enough for the public to start using it. And I must say I am impressed. The layout of the application have gotten a huge facelift, making it feel more solid and it performs many times better than what I experienced with some of the Preview releases. This is just great. It is iTunes coming to Linux, for me. Of course, Songbird is also available to OSX and Windows users.

Songbird promises to be the Firefox of media players.

There are still some features I would like to see integrated without the need for addons etc and a few minor bugs, which I am sure will be fixed in a near bugfix release. But the version that’s out is actually very usable and will most likely end up being my primary media player on Linux from now on
Perhaps on Windows as well…. the few times I hang around there.
